When you talk about better health care insurance, the finest people that can provide you that are those who are competent, independent and trustworthy brokers or individuals. A good health care insurance agent is capable of giving the acceptable and affordable rates that are satisfactory for both parties. Due to the thriving competition among health care insurance companies, a client is left with large number of options when it comes to choosing the appropriate type of health care insurance for them or for their family.

There are so many choices that you can choose from in order for you to avail of the best-priced rates which in the end will make you save more money without compromising the quality of health care that you will need should the time for you to use it comes. One of the stupid ways that will let you pay more for your premiums is the abuse of prohibited drugs this is because the use of this will also increase the risk of you getting more health complications.

Make sure that the limits that your health care insurers are reasonable and acceptable for you because other insurance companies usually put a certain level of limits when it comes to the amount that they have to pay for a certain kind of ailment. Read the policy very carefully and once you are not satisfied with what are written on it, you can always back out and look for better insurer.

Discounted rates are usually given if you choose to pay your premiums every year because aside from the fact that it will save you good amount of money for the administrative costs, it will also save you more time because you do not have to go to your bank each time you have to make the payment. If you are self-employed and you are having a problem when it comes to availing lower health care insurance rates, the best thing that you should do is to join organizations which aims to acquire and present themselves with medical coverage. These groups can be found in your community; in your rotary club, churches, and other social groups.

Health care insurance assures the patients that when the time comes their medical needs will be properly taken care of and that they will be saved from the stress of thinking about growing old without health care insurance. However, there are some limitations that you might encounter in the future especially if you are an elderly because some of these health care insurers sometimes do not include certain kinds of coverage. You can be able to solve this issue through the acquisition of a supplemental health care insurance. This insurance will cover all those limitations that are not initially included in your other insurance. This way, you can be truly free from worry and just enjoy the times of your life.

Just make sure to choose insurance providers that offer the best choice for you because you do not want to pay more as you are already paying extra for it.

Weight loss

After an exhaustive multi-million dollar health study, the government concluded that people would live longer if they did not die sooner.

The key to a long and healthy life is diet, no doubt about it. How you eat influences your health, as well as your figure. I am not going to espouse this diet or that diet, or show you how you can fit into the dress or suit you wore at your senior prom, or explain how to lose those pounds and keep them off. The hundreds of diet books and articles can do that. Besides, I cannot possibly anticipate all the individual tastes, habits and lifestyles of those reading this article. What I will do is blast those myths that say the more years you put on, the more pounds you put on; and show you how a combination of good eating (as much as you want), nutritional supplementation and easy exercise will keep you tone, trim and most importantly, healthy. Now matter how skinny you are, of you are not healthy, you won’t look good. My goal here is to give you the tools and information so you can be proud of who you are and what you see in the mirror every day.

Eight loss really is a misnomer. Your goal is not to lose weight, but to gain muscle and lose fat. To this end, I direct this article.

Whether they are the love handles diplomatically described by the husbands of overweight wives or the beer bellies on barflies, the amount of fat on the body can be traced to the amount of fat engorging the liver and encircling the heart, threatening to choke them off.

First let’s begin with a lesson on fat. The best way to beat an adversary is to understand its weaknesses and its strengths.

There are good fats and bad fats. The good fats remove excess glucose, cholesterol and triglycerides from the bloodstream until needed. They go by a variety of names and can be confusing. You hear a lot about PUFAs, or polyunsaturated fatty acids.     PUFAs are a genetic term for all the essential fatty acids (EFAs). They say essential because they cannot be made by the body and must be eaten in the diet. They are required for growth, development and maintenance of cell membranes, including those of the central nervous system. A deficiency of EFAs has been linked to heart disease, skin problems, mental problems and even multiple sclerosis.

In a nutshell, they are oils. The best food sources of EFAs are the oils from nuts and seeds. In any diet, care should be taken to include recipes rich in olive oil, flaxseed oil, walnut oil and wheat germ oil, among others.

EFAS are important in fat metabolism. Without them, fat could not be converted into glucose. Without them, the body stores the fat it should be converting to glucose. Without glucose, you become diabetic. In an article in the Journal of Nutritional Medicine stresses the importance of gamma linolenic acid for fat assimilation and to boost the immune system. Studies have shown that aggressive GLA supplementation in genetically obese people will result in gradual but substantial weight loss for about half of the test subjects-without dieting! The best source of gamma linolenic acid is borage oil, which can be purchased in capsule form in health food stores.

Wouldn’t you rather learn how to deal with minor dog health problems BEFORE they become major ones?  I know I would, because let’s face it, dogs are part of your family, and no one wants to see a part of your family get sick or even die.

Even if you’ve got the most easy-care dog in the world, she’ll still need some attention to be paid to her appearance every once in a while – so it’s worth spending a bit of time learning the best techniques for easy, stress-free grooming.

Here is some of the valuable advice I got from one of my favorite sites for dog health care solutions, The Ultimate Guide to Dog Health.

WHY SHOULD I BOTHER GROOMING MY DOG?

Not so long ago, the average American’s approach to canine grooming was somewhat cavalier. Dogs were seen as something that lived in the yard (usually in a dusty, hard-floored kennel), ate whatever was put in their bowls, and existed as a sometime-playmate for the household’s children.

Today, we tend to care for our dogs a lot more, and view them more as members of the household than the Thing in the Yard.

Ever since this rise in the estimation of our beloved pooches became widespread, grooming has been increasingly recognized as an important facet of your dog’s regular health-care. It ensures that any skin-care problems are minimized (because grooming distributes the natural skin-oils evenly throughout the coat), and assists you in monitoring your dog’s overall condition – if you groom on a regular basis, you can’t help but notice the presence of any unusual lumps or bumps.

This preventative action has saved many a canine life. Our dogs can’t tell us where it hurts, but taking just a little bit of time every so often to check them over ourselves can save a lot of grief in the long run.

The trick is getting your dog to tolerate (and even enjoy!) the process …

THE FIRST STEP IN THE GROOMING PROCESS

Something that many owners lack experience in is how to wash their dogs. Dry-grooming (brushing and ‘buffing’ the coat) seems to present little problem for most people; the rot tends to set in when water is introduced to the mix.

Most dogs have a strong dislike of being bathed, and in many cases will become utterly panic-stricken when the tub comes out.

This article is going to deal with the basics of how to wash your dog in a way that’ll keep both of you relaxed and happy.

PREPARING YOUR DOG FOR GROOMING

First of all, the absolute most important thing you can do is to accustom your dog to the grooming process. Now, starting this in puppyhood is the ideal way to handle the situation, but of course not all of us have this luxury; if you’ve got an adult dog, you’ll probably need to move a little slower, but you should still start getting her used to being touched and handled all over as soon as you can.

As your puppy or dog gets used to the sensation of being rubbed and handled, she’ll slowly come to enjoy it. Dogs are social creatures by instinct, and physical affection and contact is a big part of their lives – it shouldn’t take long before she begins to trust you, and allows herself to get some pleasure out of your touch.

All you have to do is start rubbing her slowly all over. Fondle her ears, touch her cheeks and neck, rub her back and belly, pick up her paws and – if she’ll let you – give each one a gentle squeeze (treating and praising her whenever she lets you do this, since paw touching is generally a pretty big deal for most dogs). If she has a tail, rub it between your fingers; get her to roll over on her back so you can rub and stroke her belly and hocks.

This might not seem like such a big deal, but it’s actually a really important part of the grooming process: the more your dog enjoys it, the less stressful the whole event will be for both of you, and so the more often you’re likely to groom her – which increases the health benefits for her.

HOW TO WASH YOUR DOG

Bathing always comes before dry-grooming, since it makes brushing and trimming a lot easier as well as a lot more effective (there’s not much point in brushing a tangled, dirty coat!)

You will need some basic tools: a tub, a non-slip mat, a plastic jug, some warm water, a small sponge, and some canine shampoo (not human shampoo: the pH is all wrong for dogs, and will give her dry and flaky skin.)

Stand her in the tub, on the non-slip mat. If she’s a large or unruly dog, you may want to wash her outside to minimize mess – either that, or you can restrain her by tying one end of a light nylon leash to her collar, and the other end to the faucet.

Pour jugs of warm water all over her until she’s good and wet. This breaks down the grease in her fur, and ensures a thorough shampooing.

Mix a little shampoo with another jug of warm water, and rub it thoroughly into your dog’s fur. Start off with her back and rub it into a good lather (but don’t be too harsh!)

Now you can move on to her head and face. Be very careful here – dogs’ eyes are sensitive too, and if you get any water in her ears, she’ll probably get an ear infection. (You can plug her ears with a small twist of cotton wool to help stop this from happening, if you like.)

Remember to clean under her tail before you wash her off – dip the sponge into the shampoo mixture to do this properly.

Now it’s time to rinse: using the jug and some clean, warm, shampoo-free water, carefully tip it all over her and use your fingers to help disperse the lather from her coat. Rinse her off thoroughly at least twice, since any residue that remains will irritate her skin.

Now you’ll need to dry her off: if she’s got short fur, you can use a towel (an old one will do just fine, although big dogs generally need two); for dogs with longer fur, give her a gentle toweling-off first, and then use a hair dryer to get rid of the last dampness. Be certain that it’s set on low heat, and hold it far away from your dog’s fur to prevent burning either the skin or the fur.

KEEP YOURSELF CALM

Remember that most dogs have an inherent dislike of being bathed, which can cause anxiety and even outright panic.

Your dog takes a lot of her emotional cues from you, so make sure you act like a good role model for the occasion. Reassure your dog frequently, keeping your voice well-modulated, low, and even; keep your movements slow and deliberate; praise her lavishly for good behavior, and give her a couple of treats throughout the process to make it more enjoyable for her.

The more she enjoys the process, the easier it’ll be for you!

Growing Herbs in Pots – Your Life, Your New Perspective, Your New Health

Herbs have been an ancient and powerful health partner for humans through the ages, but it is only recently that science has begun to understand the complex health benefits herb garden plants bring to our lives. It is important, perhaps now more than ever, that we return to our roots and regain our knowledge of  nature’s gifts to us. There is no better way than to invite fresh herbs from your home herb garden back indoors. Indoor herb gardens will give you all-year access and be a giant step as you return to a healthy life.

Here’s How to Grow the Healthiest Potted Herb Garden in 4 Easy Steps

There is a vast variety of herbs to choose from when you are deciding to start growing herbs in pots. Each one has many, or sometimes very specific protective health benefits. However, as you start herb garden decisions, I recommend starting with herbs that will immeditely and deliciously improve your diet and the health of the foods you eat. Start with oregano, thyme, basil and cilantro/coriander. All these herbs can receive the same basic care and requirements.

1. Recipe for soil for growing herbs in pots

3 parts garden soil 1 part peat, organic material (compost) or aged manure 1 part sand Blend soil blend well

2. Preparing Pots and Containers for planting herbs

Make sure the bottoms of your pots or containers include holes, as well as a layer of fine gravel or perlite. Good soil drainage is very important for healthy, fast growing herbs.

Use approximately 6 inch pots or containers Fill pots with soil mixture to about ½ inch from the top Water the soil before planting herb seeds

3. Planting – Growing kitchen herbs

The seeds of herbs are very small and fine, so they only require planting very shallow in the soil. Tuck the seeds just under the surface of the soil a few inches apart. (Later, when you have a bunch of seedlings, you can remove and transplant some into other containers to give the plants more space as they grow bigger.)

4. Supply your herb garden with light

Growing herbs in pots indoors, means that deciding where to place your pots becomes an important consideration. Why? Because indoor herb garden plants require lots of light, so be sure to place your pots where they can receive southern or western sun exposure on a countertop or window sill. If this isn’t possible, don’t worry. You can still grow a healthy herb garden indoors. A simple fluorescent light   placed close to the soil is perfect for germinating and getting your herbs started. The new curly style energy efficient bulbs are actually fluorescent lights. Just replace the old bulb from a desk lamp with one of these new bulbs and you have the perfect starter’s grow light.

After your seedlings are larger, the growing herbs may need a slightly more powerful source of light. A small inexpensive grow light will be sufficient to take your indoor herb garden the rest of the way.

My, “something to think about”, thought of the day:

Is your life arranged in strict categories? Aren’t Life’s categories often just barriers to a fuller life?

I’m sure, like me, you don’t want any more barriers between you and a healthy and happy life. Let’s knock down at least one barrier and start a herb garden indoors instead of outside.

The 2008 election has brought the topic of “affordable health care” and “affordable health insurance” to the forefront and, along with it, a slew of misconceptions. So, what is true and what is false? The purpose of the following article is to dispel some of these myths and misconceptions and provide information to make a muddy topic a bit clearer.

1. The first misconception is that, for some reason, Americans equate affordable health care to be “socialized medicine.”

This is not the case at all. According to Wiktionary, socialized medicine is “an umbrella term for any system of government-run health care.” Many people balk at the idea of socialized medicine because the citizens inevitably pick up the costs through higher taxes. Affordable health care, on the other hand, is as simple as the phrase states – it is health care with costs low enough for everyone to afford. The government does not necessarily oversee it and individuals are free to go to physicians of their choice. It is not discriminatory to those with lower incomes and services are equal whether one is poor or financially privileged.

2. Another misconception is that the current total of uninsured Americans is not as high as many journalists and polls report, and that this is a relevant fact that points to the lack of necessity for affordable health care.

The Kaiser Family Foundation even stated that their numbers include those who have been without insurance for two years or more. The Congressional Budget Office also said that just under half of those lacking health insurance will be without coverage for less than four months, due to being in between jobs. These numbers beg the following question, however: What about those who have something catastrophic occur within those four months that they are without insurance? Without adequate coverage, their medical bills could potentially lead to major hardships.

3. A third misconception is that the only people without health insurance are those who are poor.

This is simply not true. Americans of all income levels are without health insurance. In fact, at least half of all bankruptcies in the United States are due to medical bills. Because individuals are already paying high premiums due to not having affordable health care, when medical bills begin to accumulate, Americans are unable to pay both the premium costs as well as the mounting medical bills. And with the unemployment rate rising, more people are falling into the category of being without health insurance. Whether they are losing the insurance that came with the job they lost, or whether they are unable to continue paying the premiums due to a lack of income, the rate of uninsured Americans is on the rise.

As illustrated above, the need for affordable health care and insurance has become more crucial than ever. The current economic crisis, along with job losses being on the rise, could lead to detrimental effects on the health of Americans. Affordable health care would offer a safety net for both minor and major medical issues.

In any weight loss or body building activities, it is essential to integrate a well balanced, if not appropriate, meal. This is needed to augment the energy reserves of the body as it is pushed to well beyond its limits. And what better way to do this than by consuming a variety of Core da lane health food.

Core da lane, Idaho has a very significant role in shaping the fitness motives of health buffs. This is because the annual Ironman Triathlon is held here every fourth Sunday of June. The 140.6-mile race that requires cardiovascular endurance in swimming, unparalleled pedal power in cycling, and high impact absorbing capacity in running, is essentially the most grueling challenge any athlete can ever face.

The importance of health food then is, without question, at par with the level of importance given to physical training. Core da lane health food stores are simply the best when it comes to such needs.

Health foods come in a variety of preparations such as protein shakes and protein bars to vitamin supplements and energy boosters. What makes these products click is that they provide very specific answers to very specific requirements of the body.

When we need to lose weight, it does not make sense that we starve ourselves silly. This is definitely not the best way to shed off a few extra pounds and lose weight in the process.

Our bodies are made up of very small functional units called ‘cells’. These cells are actually a mirror of us, albeit in very microscopic sizes. These cells breathe, grow, develop, communicate, move, eat, digest, and eliminate the things it has digested.

The food that we eat, much like Core da lane health food, supplies our cells with the nutrients and other substances they need in order for them to function well. Imagine what will happen to your cells if you intentionally do not feed them.

Have you experienced getting lightheaded and a bit dizzy if you’ve missed or intentionally skipped meals for a long time? Have you tried not eating for several days and then go out and have some fun in the sun?

When we starve ourselves just for the sake of losing weight, we deprive our cells of the important nutrients they require for survival. When they die, it makes sense that we, too slowly deteriorate.

Foods such as those in Core da lane health food shops are thus very important both in sustaining the life-giving processes of our cells and in promoting sensible weight loss.  When we lose weight, we lose only the excess and not deprive other essential life components of their need to survive.

Health foods such as natural and organic food items have been shown to be very beneficial to one’s health. Antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and even trace elements have been especially cited for their significant contribution in a more efficient fat burning system.

Furthermore, these food items have also been largely credited to maintaining a healthy heart, a more responsive immune system, a well coordinated nervous system, and a well oiled musculoskeletal system.

The many benefits of such healthful eating is found in every Core da lane health food product. Not only will you be guaranteed sensible weight loss, you will also enjoy the benefits of a healthier self.

Often referred to as universal health care, national health care is a system of health care provided and run by a country’s government. The system grants free health care access to every citizen of the country. The exact healthcare services offered to citizens for free may vary from country to country, meaning that there will be some services which require personal expense to be able to access them. However, the vast majority of health services will be provided for free and paid for by national taxation. Many countries offer universal health care today, one of the first to do so successfully being Germany. The first country to ever implement such a system however, was Great Britain.

Amongst the other countries to offer such a system are France, Australia, and Italy. Almost all of the more economically developed countries around the world offer some kind of universal health care system with the exception of the United States of America. In the USA the only way to access medical care is to have medical insurance. Whilst most industrialized countries offer some kind of free medical service to their citizens the structure of this system can vary quite a bit between nations. One example of this is policies regarding private medical care. In the UK it is common practice for doctors to offer private medical services outside of the free public system, but other countries have greater restrictions on such private medical practice.

Universal health care is a very broad term that has many possible applications. However, the key feature is the provision of a free health service to citizens of a nation. Systems of this sort require huge sums of money to run. As such countries usually pay for such a system through national taxes which all citizens pay. In exchange for paying these taxes citizens are then granted free access to the national health system. It is the government’s decision as to who is entitled to health care and what sort of treatments are to be made available on the system. In some systems patients may have to pay for some part of the treatment whilst receiving the rest for free. This is a form of heavily subsidized treatment.

Systems such as these have been proven to work extremely well in a number of countries around the world. Whilst these systems are inevitably very difficult to manage, the benefits largely outweigh the costs. Owing to this fact, many American citizens and politicians have suggested that such a system may be of benefit to the USA. Rising rates of medical insurance in the USA have driven many to see a national health system as a good solution. In recent times medical insurance costs have risen out of reach of the average citizen meaning that many choose to go without insurance every year. The difficulty with this is that if medical treatment does become necessary the costs of such treatment are enough to make a family bankrupt. Opposition to this view states that taxes are levied on those who least need such care.
